What is the Arts Kidz curriculum?

The Arts Kidz curriculum is designed to provide children with a well-rounded education that covers not only essential academic areas such as literacy and numeracy but also values languages, technology and the Arts in education.

Our programmes are run by trained specialist teachers who work with the children each week in areas such as Visual Arts, Chinese Speech & Drama, Violin, Pianica, Yoga, Music & Movement and Mindfulness.

A combination of trusted curriculum content and solid approach strategies, our curriculum draws its roots from a number of sources including:

  • The Singapore Ministry of Education’s Nurturing Early Learners curriculum framework
  • The Project Approach (projectapproach.org)
  • Growing with Maths (K1-K2, in conjunction with MOE mathematics curriculum)
  • Jolly Phonics
  • The International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC)

Why Focus On The Arts?

The Arts (visual arts – making marks, painting, drawing; performing arts – music, movement, theatre, dance; and literary arts – stories, poetry and theatre) is often neglected in many schools in favour of heavy, academically-driven, rote-learning based programmes.
What these programs fail to recognize is that not only do the Arts provide an important creative outlet for children, it is also a springboard to intellectual discovery and to many academic learning opportunities.

What Is The IEYC?

The International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) is a new research-based curriculum recognising global best practice in early childhood education and the developmental needs of 2- to 5-year olds.
It integrates learning under themes and is designed to meet the needs of children growing up within an international environment.

How Do Projects Work?

Each term, the teachers choose an overall, broad-based topic. This topic allows the Lead Teachers the flexibility to focus on an aspect of that topic of interest to the children. The teacher’s then facilitate the project, writing learning objectives into the context of the project content. Literacy, numeracy, scientific processing skills, geography, social and personal skills, can all be woven into the fabric of the project.

Will My Child Be Ready For Primary 1?

“My eldest son truly enjoyed his time in Arts Kidz and till today speaks very good accented English which he picked up from his Scottish teacher then. He is now in Primary and is coping extremely well with the rigors of local school academics. Till today he has a strong interest in art and loves to draw whenever he has the time.

“My son spent 3 years at Arts Kidz and I have seen him grow into a more confident and problem transitioning into the local primary school curriculum. I was initially worried because of the rigorous school education system in Singapore, but my fears were unfounded as he coped pretty well both socially and academically without the need for me to put him through further tuition. He volunteered to speak on the outdoor school stage during the school’s Fairy Tale Day during Primary 1, dressing up as Peter Pan and talking about the character to a big audience, to his teacher’s surprise (as well as mine) because he has always been a gentle and quiet boy. I believe Arts Kidz has done an excellent job in building up his confidence, love for learning, curiosity and social-communication skills through their play-based activities, a well-rounded curriculum and competent teachers.”

Ex-Parent

“Academically, Arts Kidz operates very much like an international school and, as a Singaporean, I felt that my son was well-prepared for Primary 1 in this environment. The expat teachers were briefed on the expectations of the local school system and were active with parent communication. Also, because of this international profile, I’ve noticed that my son’s spoken English is wonderful – hardly any Singlish – compared with my 2 older ones.”

“I made the decision to enrol Thomas at Arts Haus International because of the quality of the institution. I appreciate that the educators are united in their teaching and I’m pleased to see that the students embody so much diversity and
multiculturalism. Most of all, I appreciate that the school provides a multilingual environment.”
